2025 GAHANNA GIRLS TRACK AND FIELD INFORMATION SHEET

*DAYS WE PRACTICE:  Mondays-Thursdays……. Fridays will be specialty days for Saturday participants only.
*PRACTICE TIMES:
3:45-5:30.  Check “Daily Schedule” on website ggtns.com for updates on practice cancellations due to weather or other reasons.  This will be the main notification location regarding practice status.

*Pre PRACTICE MEETING AND PRACTICE LOCATION:
High School Track.  Once wrestling season is done we will have our own locker room, but for now just meet on the track.

*PRACTICE REQUIREMENTS:
Must be all green on Final Forms, including a completed physical. You will NOT be allowed to practice after the first week if not showing all green. Bring Outdoor clothing to practice in daily, including a solid pair of running shoes.

*TENTATIVE OUTDOOR MEET SCHEDULE:
located on website under “Calendar”.  All meets are tentative and subject to cancellation OR date/time change.  This is NOT likely to happen for weekend meets, but can happen for weekday meets.    Meet participation information can also be found under  “Calendar”. This is an extremely important statement to read and digest.  It concerns your participation status and level.

*FEES: (note that this is a GJPS participation fee charged to ALL GJPS athletes, has nothing to do with uniform warmup cost, spirit items, etc…)

Gahanna Jefferson Public Schools Pay to Play Fee is as follows:

1st sport participant in same year-   $200
2nd sport participant in same year-   $100
3rd sport participant in same year-   FREE
Family Cap-                                    $500
*These fees need to be paid prior to the athletes first competition (late March 23rd, Gahanna Relays is our first official meet)
Checks made out to GLHS, or you can go to mypaymentsplus on your school access page.

*UNIFORMS:

We have multiple uniform tops, so you are asked to purchase a pair of short blue  short spandex (buy a spare pair) to go with our alternate blue, gold, black or white tops  (our base jersey is gold, and we wear blue bottoms with all tops)   Purchasing these Spandex bottoms IS necessary. You do NOT pay for uniform tops, however we will NOT provide uniform bottoms.  They CAN have any logo on them including NIKE PRO waist band, provided not multiple logos.
WARMUPS can be purchased in team shop, which opened for a week in December, but will open again at the end of February.  It can take a while for them to come in so please be patient!  Warmup top and bottom (jacket and pants) will be black, so if you do NOT get one in  before first competition please go with those colors if purchasing at a store.

PARENT/GUARDIAN ROLE:

Your role as a parent or guardian is extremely important.  Encouragement is the first word that comes to mind.  Track and Field is a difficult sport to practice at times because success is based on numbers. The stopwatch and the tape measure are instruments that pretty much determine where you are as compared to other athletes and those tools also help determine the likelihood of you making it to the next level of higher comp on our team which puts you in the running to make the travel squad.  Working as hard as you can at times doesn’t always equate to instant success numbers wise and doesn’t always transfer to you moving up.  It’s the nature of this sport.  Some kids are naturally faster, more talented and more capable of doing things better than you.  It may not seem fair but its life in the Track and Field world.  However, working hard in itself is a trait that’s not going to leave you because you don’t reach a particular goal.  A great work ethic will follow you for the rest of your life, long after your HS sports days are over! So encouraging your athlete despite the fact that they may not reach their dream goal is ultra-important.

**IMPORTANT: Please check the website (ggtns.com) often.  Always assume we will be outside unless otherwise indicated on the website

Coach Whitt and staff.

****IMPORTANT PARTICIPATION INFORMATION*****

ALL Track and Field Team members are NOT guaranteed to participate in every meet.  BIG weekend meets  are generally selected individuals, depending on our needs to compete in these Invitationals. Smaller weekend meets are usually reserved for B Team individuals.   “Varsity” is travel squad, and your participation on the travel squad can change from week to week.  On and off the travel squad may have LITTLE bearing on your ability but will depend LARGLY on where we think you can help us in order for us to be successful at that particular meet. We are trying to score as many points as we can in these meets.   “B Team” meets can consist of anyone on the team, but generally if you are running in an upcoming travel squad weekend Invitational, you will NOT compete in a “B Team” meet (unless you are a freshman or sophomore OR we need to get you work in a different area).  Most “Travel Squad” Invitationals have limits on entries (2) in each event.  Only (1) relay per event can compete at these Invitationals. “B Team meets” can also have entry limits but often allow for more entries.  When limitations are set, we will try to get as many different athletes in as we can from meet to meet.
