Sprinter Tryout Standards, week of 2/24/25
A sprinter at Gahanna Lincoln is defined as an athlete who competes in events from the 400 and down. This includes open 100-200-400 girls, 100 or 300m hurdlers and/or any athlete who wants to be considered for a relay (4×1,4×2,4×4). Tryouts are runs on the Track OR in the hallways. If they are on the track, spikes are a big advantage for traction. If the tryouts are in the hallways, spikes are still okay in short run situations (60 meters) but flats are needed for longer sprints. Standards are pre-determined times athletes must hit. If its outside, it’s pretty clear and those times will be given well in advance. If tryouts are inside, there will be adjusted times which are comparable to outdoor standards. Again, both indoor and outdoor standard times will be posted well in advance of tryouts. They will be posted under this tab. There is NO set number of athletes that make the team, its merely the athletes that hit the standards. You are exempt from tryouts IF:
A- You are a returning athlete who hit ANY (1) of the posted outdoor standards in competition last year, open or relay split
B- You are a new or freshman athlete who has been verified of hitting the outdoor standards at another school last year.
Sprinter Standards:
Outdoors-
100 meters– Under 15 Seconds
200 meters– Under 30 Seconds
400 meters– Under 73 Seconds
Indoors-
40 meters– time standard to be determined
80 meters– time standard to be determined
1 hallway lap– course location and time standard to be determined

****IMPORTANT PARTICIPATION INFORMATION*****
ALL Track and Field Team members are NOT guaranteed to participate in every meet. BIG weekend meets are generally selected individuals, depending on our needs to compete in these Invitationals. Smaller weekend meets are usually reserved for B Team individuals. “Varsity” is travel squad, and your participation on the travel squad can change from week to week. On and off the travel squad may have LITTLE bearing on your ability but will depend LARGLY on where we think you can help us in order for us to be successful at that particular meet. We are trying to score as many points as we can in these meets. “B Team” meets can consist of anyone on the team, but generally if you are running in an upcoming travel squad weekend Invitational, you will NOT compete in a “B Team” meet (unless you are a freshman or sophomore OR we need to get you work in a different area). Most “Travel Squad” Invitationals have limits on entries (2) in each event. Only (1) relay per event can compete at these Invitationals. “B Team meets” can also have entry limits but often allow for more entries. When limitations are set, we will try to get as many different athletes in as we can from meet to meet.
